Cut hair, not
trees
It's Earth Month, and Salon Lux has teamed up with
hair/skin/body care manufacturer Aveda to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
As part of a national campaign, Salon Lux hopes to raise $900 on behalf
of the Coalition for Clean Air.
To do that, they're asking for donations, they're
holding a highlight-a-thon, and they're donating a portion of the proceeds
they earn from selling products that contain morikue, (pronounced mor-ee-quay)
a nut that's grown in Brazil in conjunction with indigenous tribes.
Lori Ofstead, the manager at Salon Lux, said morikue
is "a cleansing agent and it's a protein that helps restructure and rebuild
the hair," she said.
Another of the salon's big fund-raisers will be
its highlight-a-thon on April 24. Ofstead said that instead of charging
the normal $70, the salon will be charging $40 and giving all the money
to the coalition.
Patrons who make individual donations throughout
the month are also eligible to win a basket full of $400 worth of Aveda
products.
"Earth Day is something huge. We like to participate
and raise money for different organizations to help stop global warming,
save rainforests, help indigenous tribes stay alive," Ofstead said.
